Northumbria Travel Wins National Business Competition

Northumbria Travel in Bedlington has won £10,000 worth of business consultancy in a national competition run by The Advantage Travel Partnership for its members.

Established 35 years ago, Northumbria Travel is a high street travel agent and one of the top independent companies in the country for cruise holidays with Viking River Cruises, Hurtigruten and Fred. Olsen. They were one of the first members to join Advantage, the largest independent travel agency group in the UK.

Northumbria Travel currently specialises in cruise holidays, including escorted cruises, and has exclusive deals with many of the leading UK cruise lines. The business consultancy advice will be used to develop their business by diversifying their offering to other luxury holiday types and targeting a broader range of customers.

Jane Gibson, director at Northumbria Travel said: “We were so excited to win this national competition. We have a great business but we need to move forward and take a big step to develop it for the future. To have this level of help and support will be invaluable to making this a success. We have long been a cruise specialist but we recognise the need to look at new products and diversify what we are selling.

“Many of our existing clients only book their main holiday with us but we would like to make them aware that we can also book their short breaks, holiday extras, city breaks, escorted tours and special occasion or long-haul holidays. As we expect the business to grow, we are now looking to take on a new member of staff. I am extremely driven to ensure the success of our company and with the assistance of Advantage and the business consultancy panel we can make this a reality.”

As winners, Northumbria Travel wins £10,000 worth of consultancy services from Elman Wall Travel Accountants, specialist business consultants Travel Trade Consultancy, travel technology firm Travology, Reality Training and Advantage.

David Moon, head of business development at Advantage and one of the judges, said: “Jane knows her business really well and is very clear about how she wants to continue to grow it in the future. Her plan to diversify the product offering and target a broader range of customers is just the kind of business development activity the judges were looking for. We are looking forward to working together to help Jane take her business to the next level.”
